Email your MP for tougher Climate Bill

Christian Aid have a campaign to email your MP asking for a tougher Climate Bill.  The current draft of the bill has a 60% target reduction in emissions by 2050.  Gordon Brown has indicated he is open to increasing it.  Christian Aid are calling for 80%.  It is really, really easy to do, you don't need to know who your MP is, they do it all for you.  Just go the their website here and enter your details.  You can personalise the email and even print it off as a letter so it has more effect.  Go on, it only takes a couple of minutes. 

Not soon enough....

At last plans to phase out the traditional light bulb in the UK!   More details here.  More details on lightbulbs and where to get halogen energy efficient replacements are in the Living Room section.  So how many traditional light bulbs do you have in your house?  They are only 10% efficient, the rest goes in to producing heat (OK for the winter but not an efficient way of generating heat!).   You can save a packet my moving to energy efficient bulbs.

Hmm, its getting colder..

Having been telling everyone to get their loft insulation sorted before the autumn guess who forgot (can having a new baby be an excuse for everything?!).  So just checked out what grants/discounts are available.  Have you got adequate loft insulation?  10 inches is now the recommended depth and you can save up to £250/year on heating bills.   For information on grants/discounts for loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and other energy saving initiatives check out the Energy Saving Trust's website here.
